Alaa El Hashem

Originally from Akoura, I’ve been a guide specialized in ecotourism since 2008. Today, through my ecotourism agency “Explorers,” I offer a wide range of experiences such as caving trips, hiking, rock climbing, and more. In total, we offer around fifteen different activities, including zip-lining, safari-style excursions, and stargazing.

I became a guide out of passion. While studying Management at university, I also trained with various NGOs such as the Lebanon Mountain Trail Association (LMT) and the Lebanese Association for Speleological Studies (ALES). I also received training in environmental protection.

For Sustainable and Responsible Tourism in Lebanon

Today, in addition to my work as a guide, I work with municipalities and local NGOs as tourism consultant and forest management. My work focuses on sustainable forest management and the planning and development of ecotourism sites that protect natural environments—mountains, forests—while contributing to local development.

The goal is always to enable local populations to work within their natural environment in a responsible and sustainable way. It’s also about creating jobs so that people can achieve balance and financial autonomy—so they can stay in their villages, share their way of life with visitors, and help preserve it. For instance, when we develop a hiking trail in a particular region, the path needs maintenance, local guides must be trained… All of this generates tourism and employment for the residents of those villages.

Creating jobs in my village and my region, as part of sustainable local development, has always been a priority for me. Today, ten guides work with me at the agency. Come visit us—we’re ready to offer you unforgettable experiences!
