Biosphere Reserve +21.0Shouf Biosphere Reserve
The largest of Lebanon nature reserves, Al-Shouf Cedar Nature Reserve stretches from Dahr Al-Baidar in the north to Niha Mountain in the south. Blanketed with oak forests on its northeastern slopes and juniper and oak forests on its southeastern slopes the reserve's most famous attractions are its three magnificent cedar forests of Maasser Al-Shouf, Barouk, and Ain Zhalta - Bmohary. These Cedar forests account for a quarter of the remaining cedar forest in Lebanon, and some trees are estimated to be 2,000 years old. The size of the reserve makes it a good location for the conservation of medium-size mammals such as the wolf and the Lebanese jungle cat, as well as various species of mountain and plants.

Nestled at the foothill of the great Chouf Mountains, home to the majestic cedars of Lebanon, lays the ancient village of Maasser El Chouf. Archaeological ruins delineate an enigmatic history of storied civilizations that first inhabited this town well before the 5th century BCE.
Maasser El Chouf has been continually settled ever since. Throughout most of its history, Maasser had produced some of the finest wines and olive oil in all of the Middle East. In fact, the word Maasser in Arabic is synonymous with winery or more accurately “juicer.” Unfortunately, however, the village of Maasser El Chouf had stopped producing its brilliantly balanced wines for a number of decades. That all changed when one of Maasser’s sons, Ghassan Noujaim, took it upon himself to start creating artisanal wines that could rival the wines that flowed through the dining halls of the Roman gods themselves. Nestled within the heart of Hammana village stands an enchanting, captivating, and hospitable emporium – the Brocante de Hammana. Here, visitors are invited to embark on a treasure-hunting journey that uncovers gems from all walks of life.
The story began in Paris, where Patricia Elias, the founder of La Brocante de Hammana, was venturing into bookstores, unearthing remarkable tomes. She has a passion for books (Patricia also co-founded Rawiya publishing house in Beirut), and she describes them as "time-worn, perused by unnamed individuals whose life stories remain enigmatic to me."
One day, she discovered a century-old bookmark nestled within a weighty Pascal tome. "I felt swept away by time, a witness to a bygone era that only objects possess the voice to recount. This is where my fervor for flea markets originated – the pursuit of beauty, rarity, and the extraordinary."
Confronted with an ever-growing collection of objects, Patricia decided to unite them within a unique space, where everyone could discover and select these treasures. "My brocante was conceived to gather, share, trade, and send my discoveries journeying," she explains.
