Khan el Franj also known as “Caravanserai of the French” was built by Prince Fakhreddine around the 17th Century to welcome and shelter merchants and goods from France in order to encourage trade with Europe. It is a common rectangular large patio with a fountain in the center enclosed by covered exhibition halls. In the 19th century, the khan represented the center of economic activity for Sidon and accommodated the French consulate. It is currently being remodeled and restored to serve as the Cultural Center of Sidon.

Super
