Moussa Tiba (1939-2014) was a Lebanese painter. The Moussa Tiba Museum showcases over 300 pieces of the artist’s work in what used to be his house. Tiba was quite affected by the 1975 war in Lebanon and had to flee the country as it destroyed his studio and house. He moved around Europe and North America before eventually moving to France.
After living in so many different places, Moussa Tiba felt like he did not belong to a specific place but to the whole world at the same time. He was stuck between cultures: oriental and occidental.
He inspired himself from both, especially by the cultures that influenced his native country the most, such as the Phoenicians, Egyptians and Greeks. His aim is to reconcile their differences through art in the name of peace.
Pieces from Halim Jurdak, Shafiq Abboud and Hussein Madi can also be found in the museum.
