The ancient Ras-El-Ain spring has been a vital water source since ancient times and remains an integral part of modern Baalbeck. Visitors to the site can witness the remains and ruins of a Roman sanctuary and nymphaeum, as well as the remnants of an old Mamluke Mosque that was built in the year 1277.
