The Murex Hill is a mound of debris found to the south of the citadel. It is an artificial hill that is 100 meters long and was created as a result of the accumulation of remnants from the purple dye production process which was one of the specializations of the Phoenicians during ancient times. Mosaic tiles at the top of the pile hint that Roman structures were built there, and the hill in the present time is covered by residence homes and constructions as well as a cemetery. The site is becoming increasingly inaccessible to the interested public due to the lengthy and large scale construction over the years. Nonetheless, broken and cracked Murex Shells can still be found on the bottom part of the hill.
