The Tripoli station served as a significant railway infrastructure in the region, having commenced operations in 1911. With its sole track, it played a crucial role in linking Tripoli to Homs in Syria. During the 1920s, 30s, and 40s, it served as a terminus for the "Taurus Express," an extension of the famous "Orient Express" line that ran to Istanbul. To travel to the Middle East, passengers had to take a ferry across the Bosphorus before boarding the Taurus Express at Haydarpasa, which would take them to Aleppo. From there, one could either continue to Iran and Iraq or make their way down to Lebanon's Tripoli. Tripoli station also had a connection to Beirut Central Station in Mar Mikhael in 1945.
