The old marketplace – Souk Al-Qadeemah - is a must-see destination after visiting the Roman Theatre. Originally built in the 19th century, the market was renovated with basalt in 2003 and 2004. The residential houses feature impressive vaults made of sandstone from Batroun.
This elegant structure of residential houses in the old marketplace is the result of the efforts of a wealthy social class, industrialists, and bourgeois tradesmen. In the past, the marketplace was home to numerous stores, shops, hotels, and firms, and the residential community was located above them.
