The Maghen Abraham Synagogue, one of the most prominent synagogues in Lebanon, is located in the Jewish district of Wadi Abu Jamil in Downtown Beirut. Sadly, the synagogue was destroyed during the Lebanese Civil War. It was originally constructed in 1925 and named after the son of Abraham Sassoon. The land for the synagogue was donated by Isaac Mann, and it was designed by architect Bindo Manham, with construction overseen by Ezra Benjamin and Joseph Balayla.
Following Israeli shelling in 1982, the synagogue was left abandoned. However, in 2009, renovations began to restore the synagogue to its former glory, with the restoration project being completed towards the end of 2010.
