Constructed in the 13th Century using granite columns and pillars that were believed to be removed from Baalbeck, the ‘Qubbat Duris’ is a Muslim sanctuary and temple located on the old road to Damascus. Moreover, there are 2 jointed pillars that were once merged through the use of iron. Many were gashed open or overthrown by the emirs of Damascus in dangerous attempts to acquire the metal.
At the southern entrance of the town of Baalbeck, there is an octagonal structure consisting of 8 Roman granite pillars. Built in the 13th century, it was originally topped with a cupola and had an Ayyoubid tomb attached to it.
