Saint Stephen’s Church/Cathedral is a must-visit spot after the market place and is regarded as one of the most enormous, elegant, and exquisite churches in Lebanon. It strategically overlooks the fisherman’s port and was designed by the famous Italian architect Giuseppe Maggiore, who also supervised its construction.
The design is a combination of Byzantine, Roman, and Gothic arts, with stones of sandy texture creating two paths towards the west and east. The church has three altars where offerings and sacrifices were made, with the main altar in the center and a painting of Saint Stephen by Italian painters Giosti hanging above it.
