Burtasiyat Madrassa-Mosque is a magnificent mosque that was constructed early 14th Century AD and dates back to the Mamluke Era. The structure is topped with a dome and built alongside is a squared minaret elevated above the main entrance arch. The structure is also decorated with double windows that are arched with black and white stones. Its surface area is approximately 477 m2 and is located near the western bank of Abu Ali River.
The style of architecture implemented is a combination of Fatimid and Byzantine characteristics. Some of the distinctive features which stand out are the dark stone gateway which is decorated with stalactites in addition to the mihrab (A semi-circular niche in the wall of a mosque indicating the direction of the Qibla) which is topped with a glamorous golden mosaic.
