The Church of Saint John of the Pilgrims Mount is situated in the Maronite Cemetery of Saint John, approximately 200 meters south of the fortress on Abu Samra hill. Notable remains of this Crusader church comprise of two joined sanctuaries. The larger one is equipped with a semi-circular inner dome, while the smaller one has a rectangular-shaped inner dome and was used for funerals. The church is enclosed in a graveyard.
This church is unique in Lebanon and closely resembles a church in Syria and another in Jordan. The infrastructure of the Church was discovered between 1946 and 1948. The flooring of the church is made of marble, except for the choir section. Below this zone is a hollow chamber whose purpose is not yet fully determined. The name of this church has been found in manuscripts dating back to the Crusader era and discovered in the last century.
