The construction of The Mansouri Great Mosque commenced in 1294 and concluded in 1315. It was erected atop the remnants of the demolished 12th Century Crusader Cathedral of St. Mary of the Tower.
The Great Mosque boasts an expansive courtyard and is surrounded by verandas. Internally, it features a prayer hall with rounded and arched elements. Within this historic church, visitors can discern several significant ancient fragments, including the northern entrance and other Western architectural details, such as the Lombard-style bell tower, which was later converted into a minaret.
The remaining details etched into the Great Mosque and its neighboring madrassas offer valuable insights into both the structure itself and the daily life of Mamluke inhabitants in the ancient city of Tripoli.
