The Vine trail in Roum
Move through vineyards, olive groves and pines, and cross rivers to discover antiquities in the wilderness of the valley. Starting with a visit to the Roum Village Square, the St. George church and the Nabi Yaacoub Mosque, you will hike your way to the Dagon forest, passing Rihane bushes. Make your way through a glorious array of wild lavender, pink anemones and cyclamen that lead you through oaks and a rock cave to reach the Qattine River and the incredible view of the Qattine Valley.

A tour of Roum village square
Begin your day with a tour of Roum village square visiting the St George Church and then the Nabi Ayoub Sanctuary - take in the panoramic view of the surrounding villages. Then Visit the ancient grape press and basin, as well as the massive olive tree, rumored to date back a millennium. Head 1 km out of the village to the telephone building, just before you reach it take the track road on the left and walk until it splits.
Enter the Dagon forest
Take right path to enter the Dagon forest, passing Rihane bushes - the berries are unique to this region and used to make liquor. View an ancient stone basin on the right and continue through soaring pines until the track splits, stay right, and head down until the track ends, in spring surrounded by a glorious array of wild lavender, pink anemones and cyclamen. Take a left turn into the dense forest to reach a clearing, head down to the valley taking in breathtaking views. Cross a stream, head down rocky hill, then back over the stream to take trail on the left side to head up the cliff through bushes.
Admire the incredible view of the Qattin Valley
The trail leads down past oaks and a rock cave to reach the Qattin River. Cross over to reach meadow, a beautiful grassy spot to take a rest. Head right to view an ancient olive press. Head back to river and cross over, take left turn to get back on stony trail heading up to join a track road. Take in the incredible view of the Qattin Valley and the abandoned stone houses dotted on the hillside. The track road continues up, past vines and olives then go off to take a trail on right into the bushes, passing through olive groves, to take a right turn, then a sharp left down a trodden path used by farmers.
End of the trail : enjoy the view !
When path splits turn left, then right at the next divide, then an easy climb over a stone wall to continue on a stony trail. Reach a clearing which offers a scenic view of the village of Roum. Head up towards the Solomon restaurant, your final destination and a good spot for a bite to eat after this wonderful hike.
