Roman Bridge Trail - Bhannin

Departure from Mar Elias Church

This trail begins at the charming Mar Elias Church in the village of Bhannin, located around 7 km from Jezzine town center. Walk 25m south along a paved road, then head down towards the valley on a track road. Stay left and pass over a stream and then head south through a meadow to reach an agriculture road. Turn right and head towards the Bhannin Valley - take in the stunning view of the surrounding pine forest.

Heading to an oak forest

After passing a quarry, head straight along a dirt road, across a meadow, passing over a stream, an olive grove and the Aray stream to reach the welcome shade of an oak forest.

Towards Al Rehben Watermill

After a short walk you will reach a clearing, take a sharp right after a towering pine tree, and head down through bushes and scrubs towards the Al Rehben Watermill on the banks of the Jezzine River - a highlight of this trail is to pass over the adjacent ancient Roman bridge in the footsteps of Lebanon’s bygone travelers and merchants.

Have a break

Take a break on the river bank lined with shady trees and ferns. Or, just laze for a while on the nearby meadow, in spring filled to the brim with stunning wild flowers. Head back the same route to the Mar Elias Chapel.
