Nejmeh Square in Beirut, also known as Place de l'Etoile, is the focal point of the Downtown area. The area is pedestrianized, which allows you to walk around quietly. It is home to the Lebanese Parliament and its associated buildings, two cathedrals, an art museum, and several bistros and cafes. Renowned for its Art Deco architecture, the square has become an iconic symbol of Beirut around the world. The centerpiece of the square is a 1930s clock tower featuring a four-faced Rolex clock. It was erected in 1933 by Michel EI Abed.
The square is also famous for its numerous pigeons, reminiscent of its French counterpart. Its architectural style is a blend of French, Oriental, and modern influences.
